    SHELTERS, FOOD, AND SERVICE
    SAN FRANCISCO

    Dept. of Human Services (DHS) 1235 Mission St., SF
    8:30am to 4:30pm, M-F   Arranges for emergency housing for up to
    one week.  Eligibility: individuals who are referred from a residential
    substance abuse program.

    Dolores Street Community Services  
    Office: 938 Valencia St. (Near 20th) 415-282-3078
    Office: 9:00am to 5:00pm.  Shelter: 7:00pm to 7:00am
    Provides shelter for up to 90 days at three locations in the Mission
    District: Dolores Street Shelter, Shelter Joaquin, and Saint Ann’s
    Shelter.  Services to residents include meals, showers, storage, mail
    service, health clinics, English as a Second Language (ELS)
    instruction, immigration and legal services, and translation services.  
    Mental health counseling, substance abuse counseling, HIV
    counseling, and peer support groups.  Offers referrals for services
    not provided on site on a drop in basis.

    More services are available.

    MSC  -  Multi-Service Center: North of Market
    1001 Polk St. at Geary.  292-2180 (24hrs).  Men and women 18 or
    older sign up from 6am-noon. 90 floor spaces and 0-20 beds
    available for men and about 40 beds for women.  Women enter from
    3:30-9pm and eat at 5:45pm.  Men enter from 5-10pm.  No meal.  
    Drop-in and showers for women, 9am-3pm for men.

    MSC  -  Multi-Service Center: South of Market
    525 5th St. (near Bryant) 597-7960 (24hrs).  Men 18 or older, sign
    up from 5am-noon.  100  floor spaces and 0-20 beds available.  
    Showers from 10am-2pm and 4-9pm.

    Salvation Army Shelter     341 Eddy St. (near Jones)
    928-4120.  Men 18 or older show up 8:30 pm for a one night bed.    
    0-30 beds available nightly.  Enter shelter 8:30pm, leave at 7:30am.  
    Dinner and breakfast.

    St. Anthony’s  45 Jones St. (near Golden Gate) 241-2688.  Women
    18 or older sign up from 5:15-7pm.  3-4 beds available nightly.

    La Casa de las Madres 1663 Mission St., #225.  Battered women
    with or without children, call for shelter.  24 hr Crisis line  will be
    answered at 1-877-503-1850.  Teen line is 1-877-923-0700.  If you
    have nowhere to go, you will be accepted that night.  Program
    includes house meetings, 3 meals daily, and chores.  Stay for up to 8
    weeks.  For counseling, referrals to other agencies, or volunteer info,
    call 503-0500.  M-F.  24 hour intakes.

    Women’s Drop-In Center 135 Golden Gate (near Leavenworth)
    open M-F 9:15am-4:30pm.

    Sanctuary 201 8th St. (at Howard) 863-3893. (24hrs)
    Men come in 6-9am for standby list for 7:30pm.  25 cots and 0-2
    beds nightly.  Stay for one night on cot or up to 30 days if bed is
    available.  Women come in 4:30-6:30pm to ask for a bed for up to 30
    days.  Shelter is open 4pm-8am.  Clothing, 2 meals daily, medical
    services and case management for guests only.  English, GED, and
    computer classes available for everyone.

    Raphael House 1065 Sutter St. (near Hyde) 345-7265. Good
    shelter and services for families and at-risk children.

    Next Door 1001 Polk St. (at Geary) 280 beds. Up to 6 month stays
    with case management. Possibility of permanent housing.  
    Considered a “model shelter."

    Homes Not Jails 519 Ellis St. (near Leavenworth)      282-5525.  
    Show up Tues. night at 7:30 to be taken to “squats.”  Possibility of
    being rousted.  No drugs/alcohol.


    MEALS

    St. Anthony’s Dinning Room 45 Jones St. (near Golden Gate) 415-
    241-2600.    Noon-1:30pm daily.  11-noon daily for seniors or people
    with children.

    Haight-Ashbury Food Program   1525 Waller St.    (near
    Belvedere)   415-566-0366  T-F  noon-1pm. Lunch. Families and
    seniors eat at 11:30, all others eat at noon.

    All Saints’ Episcopal Church 1350 Waller St. (near Masonic)
    415-621-1862.   M,W,F 2:30-4:30pm  Tu,Th, 8:30am-4:
    30pm              Sat: 10:30-11:30am.

    First AME Zion Church     2159 Golden Gate Ave. (near Masonic)
    415-931-7479 M-F 11:30am-12:30pm. Lunch, sandwiches, and
    dessert.

    Glide Memorial Church 330 Ellis. (415) 674-6040 Meals Daily -
    Breakfast 8-9am Lunch 12-1:30pm  Dinner 4-5:30pm weekdays.  
    Walk-in services available.

    St. John’s African Orthodox Church 351 Divisadero.                  
    415-621-4054. Sun: 3:30-4:30pm. Mon: 2:30-3:30pm.  Wed: 12-1pm.

    St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church   666 Filbert St. (near
    Washington Square) 415-421-0809  
    Sandwiches every day 4-5pm.

    Martin de Porres  225 Potrero Ave. (near 16th St.)  552-0240
    Sun: 9:10:30am brunch.  M,T,Th,F: 6-7:30am breakfast.  
    Tues thru Sat: 12-2pm lunch.   Breakfast is oatmeal and herb tea.  
    Lunch is a hearty soup and salad.  Usually vegetarian too.

    Missionaries of Charity  1330 4th St.          
    415-821-9687. M-W,F: 4:30-5:30pm.  Sa: 3:30-5:30pm. Su:3:30-4:
    30pm.  Soup and sandwiches.
